Quietann's Vorkosigan fanfic

Everything here is set entirely in Lois McMaster Bujold's
Barrayar/Vorkosigan
series. It is, of course, copyrighted by her, and I have not, of
course, asked permission to use what she has created. May Herself and
G-d forgive me, in that order.
This page is an index of what I've written. I have
been writing fanfic since early 2006, and welcome feedback by email
or via the bujold_fic community on Livejournal
where I post most of what I write. In real
life, I am a married, childfree 40-something biostasistician living in
New England and working on data management and analysis for HIV
clinical trials. I also breed pet rats.
I started writing fanfic set in EE Beck and Stacey's
LMB Alternate Universe, in which Gregor and Miles,
well, you know. You can (and should) read A
Deeper Season,
their (PG13) slashfic novel, before reading anything I have
written based on
it. Beck and Stacy have generously allowed me to borrow their
hard work, and have been wonderful about feedback. I've done
rewrites from another
character's point of view, or fill-ins for things referenced, but not
written about, in ADS.
More recently, I've branched out into LMB canon writing. A
lot of it is fill-ins for things mentioned in the books but nor
expanded upon, or exercises in taking a different character's point of
view in something already written.
I write a lot from Emperor Gregor Vorbarra's
point of view; and even the exceptions tend to feature him in at
least a minor role. We
don't see him enough in Herself's writings; in ADS, EE Beck and
Stacy focus on
him as much as on Miles, but I'm going more into the details of the
inside of Gregor's head.
My feelings on (hardcore) slash/het/p0rn: I've read some good
stuff
written in other fandoms, but as has been noted by others, the
Vorkosiverse does not loan itself to this sort of thing. In particular,
poor Gregor, who is exquisitely polite and private, just does
not want p0rn writen about him. This does not
mean that you
won't find sex in my writings; it's just that you'll mostly need to
fill in the who-put-what-where details yourself. I try to indicate if
a piece has explicit or disturbing content.

Gregor as a teenage Emperor, observing himself and the antics of his
young friends. Written for the second Livejournal Bujold
Ficathon.
- Two Fragments Femmeslash,
Drou/Princess Kareen. In which Drou learns the true nature of
duty and devotion. R-plus rating. Unfinished and likely to stay
that way.

major edit; all the places where it went "clunk" before will be taken
care of. Estimated finish: end of 2007.

- Wildflowers:
A three-part story in which
Miles takes Gregor on vacation. Very schmoopy (I started writing it
on Valentine's Day 2006), sex happens but it's not more than
R-rated. Set post-ADS. My favorite so far, and the
most
independent from LMB canon or A Deeper Season.
- Prince
Serg's
Secret: Gregor's reflections while waiting for
Miles
(ADS, Chapter 5), with flashbacks to The
Vor Game.
Contains references to non-consensual sexual activity.
- Cordelia
Talks to Gregor:
Mostly a canon piece with some references to ADS; see below.
- Short pieces taking scenes from A Deeper Season
and
rewriting them from Gregor's point of view:
- Gregor
asks Miles over
to... Funny, I hope. (ADS, before
Chapter 14)
- A
tiny bit of dialog at a
difficult moment, in that part that was... ahem... missing from ADS
Chapter 14. If I ever get
the nerve to write smut, it will grow from this,
I think.

on, from the point of view of the cat. I wrote this for
Rabbit
Hole Day on Livejournal. Definitely R-rated slashy, oh yes (no
explicit language, but it would make your boss blush.) (ADS,

Training
Sahiya very kindly gave me permission to use a plot
bunny of from her story Fluidity to write about just how
Donna Vorrutyer came to take a very young Ivan Vorpatril as a
lover. Short, humorous, PG-13. Enjoy this one!
- Cordelia
talks to
Gregor: Countess Vorkosigan talks to Gregor about
his father
and grandfather, and the Vorbarra family legacy, as Miles asked him to.
Set immediately
after The Vor Game. Stands more or less on its
own, although this provides ADS-based
context. Contains references to non-consensual sexual activity.
- A trio of stories about the very complicated relationships
among the cousins Donna/Dono, Byerly, and Richars Vorrutyer. True to
canon.
- Donna on
Her Way: A longish
story addressing Lady Donna's life just before and just after she
decided to become a man. Has some non-explicit lesbian bits, and
references an attempted rape.
- "You Believed Me":
When Donna was 12, Richars tried to rape her.
No one
believed her except Byerly. Nothing explicit, but
obviously
disturbing rape/incest allusions.
- Just imagine how Byerly Vorrutyer put together his mad
plan in A Civil Campaign, and how he felt when it
all fell to pieces
but turned out OK in the end anyway. This is not finished yet; it is a
character study of Byerly as a man who wants to
be helpful,
but almost isn't. (unfinished)
- Little Bit:
Gregor, Laisa, lots of PG-rated schmoop, and a pony (based on a scene
from Memory)
- Political Lessons:
Continuing
on from Little
Bit, a ride in the
garden and a conversation that clinches Gregor's feelings for Laisa.
More PG-rated schmoop, still with a pony.
- A story about Elena as a teenager (pre-Warrior's
Apprentice), with things to say about her status, or lack
thereof, as a young woman on Barrayar. (in progress)
One more thing: I recently helped a very talented Russian fanfic writer
with her Russian-to-English translation of a short piece she'd written.

I am also helping her edit a
20-chapter PG-13 slashfic about Simon Illyan and Aral Vorkosigan's trip
to
Escobar. This is still in progress, but what's available can
