For anyone who knows me, this is not surprising. But it's been pointed out that I haven't actually mentioned it here. Ted, who was mentioned above in an earlier rev of the preceding paragraph, is not merely our housemate, he's also our 3rd family member.

Altavista Search

Why so many search engines?

I put the Altavista search on here some years ago when they were the best engine out there and it was faster than having them in my hotlist.
A couple of years later, while working for Leftbank, I discovered NL - a client of LBO's - and as AV had been going downhill in their usefullness and NL had the special collections and the results folders, I added them in here. Unfortunately, they're out of the free search business now.(1/16/02)
Now comes google. The form on this page is most of the content of their homepage, they're fast, and they've got a good accuracy rate. Oh, and they're not another fscking portal, yet.
Am I ever going to start pulling off the old ones? Maybe. I rarely use altavista any more, but not never, and web-page realestate is cheap. We'll see.
BTW: I'm Feeling Lucky takes you straight to the 1st site returned. Maybe I'll change the default action to it some day, but not right now.

Jelly Babies. Yes, I started eating them because of Dr. Who. So what? I still love them. :) Any brand is ok - though I only know of Bassett's and Henry Goode's.
UpdateI found 600g boxes of Bassett's at the Stop And Shop in Arlington, MA this weekend. The price was Rude: about $11 (while at Disneyworld - hardly the cheapest shopping destination in the states - I bought 200g packets of Henry Goode's for $3 and I seem to recall that the 338g Bassett's I bought in various newsagents shops in May 99 cost me about £1.50
The price sucks, but they're STOCKING them, so I'll buy them, at least occasionaly. However, given the price differential, UK Imports are still welcome. (upd: 3/27/00)
Lindt Excellence MILK Chocolate. It's the best Milk Chocolate bar I've ever had. Very rich with an almost caramel underflavor. The Dark is available here, but not the milk for some reason.
UPDATE!: I bought one in the states! Wine & Cheese Cask in Somerville had them just before christmas! Woo Hoo! Maybe they'll be widely available soon!!! (1/17/03)
Cadbury Sultana Bars. I think these are out of production. I'm not sure though. I hope not. I just know I couldn't find them anyplace the last time I was in London (which was 5/99)

Goddamn it. Every fucking thing we've fought for over the past many years is now at stake and you've just given it over to the fucking shrub. Quoth Regis: "Expect bush and ashcroft to stack the federal courts with all the whackjobs they can, especially since openings have been backing up since the republicans started stonewalling clinton's apointees several years ago." Yup. Expect every single hard-won freedom and most of your personal liberties to be set back 20-40 years. Maybe I'll be able to be coherant about this at some point. Right now, I'm just pissed.
